Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections http://www.iecc.org/ E-friends http://www.efriends.pnet.pl/ Teaching.com http://www.mightymedia.com/keypals/ New course book, new term why not set up an email exchange with your class? This could become a regular project. Being the first email this should concentrate on introductions and personal information. It'll take some setting up but worth while in the long run. Unit
Worldwide wedding traditions. Use these sites to research wedding customs in students' native country, alternatively research how weddings are different in the UK. Unit
Use these questionnaires to see how healthy your lifestyle is. Many Insurance companies will offer health questionnaires with no commitment that test how healthy your lifestyle is Unit
Use these sites to find music/a band/a singer you like, explain to the others in the group why you like this music and if you're lucky you will be able to play a piece. Encourage other members of the group to express their opinions and preferences. Brainstorm the different kinds of music and see how many styles you can find on the site. (BOL is particularly good for this.) Unit
Variety of links all dealing with the subject of friendship. Why not encourage the class to send a friendship card to an old friend (In English) Read about International Friendship and read some friendship stories, then encourage the class to think about how and where they met their best friend and describe why their best friend is so special. Alternatively select some poems from the third site and encourage discussion on the students' favourite/saddest poem. Unit
Excellent bank of past news events on video. There is a small subscription charge which is well worth it. However, there is also a free preview area with a good selection of old and new clips. Choose one that your students would remember and ask them to remember as many of the details as possible, then ask them to watch the clip and check to see if they had remembered all the details. Unit
Anecdotes contributed by people from around the world, lots of examples of the target language. Ask your students to read through some of the favourites and vote for the best. Ask them to keep an eye on the language being used. You could ask for a few examples and discuss their usage together. Unit
Use these links to gather similar information about other everyday products. Ask groups to gather basic information on how the product is made as well as some fascinating facts. Then ask each group to give a short presentation on what they have discovered. Alternatively ask the students to write a report on how the product is made and its history. Unit
This extensive site offers etiquette advice for business travellers. Students could be asked to brainstorm and research the customs of their own countries and to think about what foreign visitors may find confusing when visiting. Ask the students to be particularly careful of what they should not do. |
