Unit
News broadcasts updated daily. Use it the same as you would a cassette, the advantage is that the learner has total control. Listen to it yourself, brainstorm some recent news stories and ask students to listen and check what the stories are about. You could also prepare a gap-fill exercise based around the news headlines. Unit
Alternatively learners could look up people they admire and tell others about him/her. Unit
Use these sites to compare cities. Ask students to look up two cities, maybe their city and an equivalent British city (e.g. Marseilles and Manchester) Ask them to make notes on the main points of each place and then to make a list of similarities and differences. Unit
Use these or any commercial site to describe objects. Ask your learners to look at a picture and to think about how they would describe it. Then ask one group to describe their object and ask the rest of the class to guess what is being talked about. Unit
Use these sites to discuss colours in greater detail and investigate some of the weird and wonderful names paint makers give their products. Discuss some of the adjectives associated to the colours e.g. vibrant, Latino There are often a couple of hands-on activities for your students to try e.g. choosing a colour scheme for the classroom and explaining your choices, or taking a quiz to see what colour reveals about your personality. Unit
Very short fiction (2-2000 words). Choose one or two examples and decide what could have happened to the speaker e.g."I can forgive, but I'll never — ever! — forget why?" What happened to make the speaker feel like that? Unit
Brainstorm some jobs not mentioned in the course book and discuss what kind of experience and qualities the class think are needed. Then ask them to find similar jobs on these sites and compare their answers. As a follow up students could be asked to write a cover letter outlining their experience and why they think they would be suitable for the job. Unit
The local government site for Santiago and the Holy Year celebrations. Use this to find out more about the city. You could ask your class to imagine they are going to walk the Way of St James and ask them to discuss in groups the route and accommodation and to put together some tips. Unit
Online experiments from the psychology department of Saarland. Most of the experiments deal with the way people make judgements based on appearances, consequently this site lends itself to work with adjectives. Take part in some of the experiments or use some of the photos to discuss what your students think these people are like. |
