Unit 21
Hollywood.com
www.hollywood.com
Guardian Films
www.filmunlimited.co.uk

Use these excellent sites to talk about the subject of film. Lots of interesting little features, for example, recommending films to match the mood you are in. It is also possible to see trailers of new and old films. Instead of talking about films you haven’t seen, encourage your students to research a film they would like to see, give a brief synopsis to the rest of the class and even show them a clip. The class could then vote for which film they would most like to see and why.

Unit 22
World Wildlife Foundation
http://wwf.org/
Friends of the Earth
http://www.foe.org/
Greenpeace
http://www.greenpeace.org/

Use these sites to prepare for a class discussion on the effect humans have had on the earth. Alternatively ask students to research different environmental problems and ask them to write about or discuss orally possible solutions.

Unit 23
Kidsdomain
http://www.kidsdomain.com/holiday/val/stories.html

Nice list of links with a good selection of poetry and classic scenes. Encourage students to browse the poems and choose one they like.

Unit 24
Mr. Showbiz
http://mrshowbiz.go.com/celebrities/

Search for a star, actor, writer, singer... they’re all there. Loads of interviews with famous people. Ask the class for names of actors/singers they like, then ask them to go to this site and search for information about that person. Most interviews include some direct quotes, get the students to write down some direct quotes and then ask them to report them as if writing for a newspaper.

Unit 26
Yahoo.com
http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Food_and_Drink/

Choose a dish from your area and make notes on the ingredients and method and give a summary to the class. Alternatively find the strangest food you can, again make notes on ingredients and method and tell the rest of the class.

Unit 27
Postcards from England
http://www.cardengland.com/
Blue Mountain
http://www.bluemountain.com/

Lots of sites on the net where you could send virtual cards, many funny some serious, most free. If your class is studying in an English speaking country then ask them to send a virtual card to a friend, to a classmate or to you (make sure you get a copy), asking them to write about an experience they had during their studies or during their last holiday.

Unit 28
About - the human Internet
http://geography.about.com/science/geography/

A long list of geography resources. Lots of possible activities. If your students all come from different countries get them to print out a blank map, research the main industries and ask them to draw on the map where these industries are. Finally ask them to give a mini presentation, and/or get them to take the geography quiz.

Unit 29
B&Q DIY
http://www.diy.com/
Dulux
http://www.dulux.com/
Crown paint
http://www.crownpaint.co.uk/

Think about ways to improve your school/classroom. Maybe there is a building in bad state of repair nearby, why not get your students to have a look and to make notes on the problem areas and how they could be improved. Tell them they have a limited budget so they need to think about what they can do themselves and what they need to have done. Use the sites above to get ideas for colours, styles etc.

Unit 30
Countryside Alliance
http://www.countryside-alliance.org/
BBC
http://news2.thls.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/special_report/1999/08/99/fox_hunting
The Guardian
www.guardian.co.uk
The Telegraph
www.telegraph.co.uk

Use some or all of these sites to set up a discussion on cruel sports. Before the class make sure you have a good idea of what is available, then divide the class into pros and cons giving them sites to search and ask them to come up with a list of arguments to support their cause. Do a search in any of the British newspapers and there are loads of articles about fox hunting, cruel sports etc.
