Unit
Divide the class into shoppers and shop-assistants, give the shoppers a list of things they need to buy and a price limit and tell them to ask the shop-assistants for help. Lots of good practice for how much, and a good opportunity to use adjectives. Unit
This site is a by-no-means-definitive-list of art galleries throughout the world. Find some paintings that lend themselves to prepositions (Still-life paintings are particularly good.) and you could do one of two things. If your class is fairly strong then ask them to prepare a simple description of the painting using a set number of prepositions. Alternatively you prepare a gap-fill where they fill in the vocabulary and the prepositions. Unit
Set up an email exchange. Itll take some time but well worth the trouble, obviously at this stage conversations will be limited but once students become interested you will see the difference very quickly. The first few exchanges should be set around everyday information and personal details. Unit
In pairs or groups one person finds the picture of a famous person and the other people in the group have to guess the identity by asking questions. These could be yes/no questions or more descriptive questions such as: What colour eyes has she got? Unit
Use this site to create a visual display of where your students live. If they are from different countries then of course ask them to get maps of their country as well as their city, if they are all from the same area then a street map of the town will be enough. Label the maps with the names of the students and things like: We live on this road. They live in that area. Unit
This is a site that will tell you exactly what time it is in any part of the world. You could use this site to have a race in the class. Prepare some obscure place names and ask them to find the time in each. They should shout out the answer as soon as they find it and it should only be accepted if it is both correct and said in its full form. Unit
, 19 & 20 Directory of many of the sports played in the UK. Encourage your students to ask their partners which sports they like and dont like. If they do not know what the sport is tell them to click on the link theres more than likely to be a photograph that should illustrate the sport. What do you do in your free time? Students can complete this quiz and then report back their own favourite choices, which activities they do regularly and when. |
